In late 2019, I completed a full renovation of my personal home with the help of my best friend—now business partner—Ben Hill. We had already renovated and flipped a few homes in the years leading up to that project, but something about finishing my own house shifted things for me. That’s when I realized how much I genuinely enjoyed the cabinetry side of renovations.
There was something incredibly satisfying about designing a fully functional kitchen that still carried a sense of elegance and creativity. At one point—completely sarcastically—I looked at Ben and said, “We should start a cabinet business.” As it turned out, the timing wasn’t so sarcastic after all. I was searching for new employment, and Ben was ready for a change of his own. Within three months, that offhand comment turned into a full business plan. What started as a joke quickly became a serious question: Are we really doing this?
From there, we began the process every new business owner knows all too well finding a workspace and, arguably the hardest part, choosing a name. We threw around countless ideas, rejecting each other’s suggestions one after another. Then it finally clicked: All Squared Away Cabinets.
The name came from my military background, where being “squared away” meant being prepared, disciplined, and detail oriented.
Eventually, we dropped the “d” from “Squared,” plus eliminated "Away" and just like that, All Square Cabinets was born.

Next came the logo—because every great company needs one, right? After plenty of back-and-forth (and even a few napkin sketches during a lunch brainstorming session), we were fortunate to have my wife, Kristel, step in. As a graphic artist, she quickly brought our vision to life and created the logo that represents us today. From the beginning, we knew we didn’t want to be just another cabinet company. Our goal was to offer
semi-custom cabinetry—something that delivered a custom feel without the custom price tag.
Then, just two months after opening our doors in April 2020, the world changed. The COVID-19 pandemic hit, and like many small businesses, we had to adapt quickly. We took on smaller jobs—anything we could find—to stay afloat. It wasn’t easy, but we pushed through.
About a year and a half later, we began getting approached by designers and builders asking if we could take on full custom projects. After some careful thought, we decided to step into that space. That decision marked a turning point for us. Word spread quickly about who we were and the quality of our work. Roughly two years later, another opportunity
came—this time from clients seeking high-end custom cabinetry.
Once again, we had to evaluate our direction. And once again,
we chose to grow.
At the same time, we made a commitment to
never lose sight of how we started.
So, we then structured the company into distinct divisions:
Today, All Square Away Cabinets stands as a reflection of that journey—from a sarcastic comment to a thriving, multi-division business.
And as for what’s next?
We’re just getting started.
